Over the years there has been much confusion about one of Belle Isle's many institutions: the Casino. this is not a gambling casino, but rather uses the previous sense of the saying, an area "public entertainments." This Casino has been used for this specific purpose since the original structure was built-in the 1880s, in the role of a gathering location for Detroiters for generations.
The first building to get called the Casino was integrated 1887, as Belle Isle was being turned into a municipal park. It was constructed to keep events, bazaars, and things of that nature, which its successor principal purpose is to do as well. The original building burnt down in here early 1900s.
The original building was replaced in 1907 using a building developed by the firm of Van Leyen and Schilling. This building has continued to serve its function successfully for well over 10 years now, and its particular future seems to get secure well into the future, regardless of the problems that Belle Isle has received in recent years.
